International Travel – When Stuff Happens Be Prepared
Stuff happens when we travel overseas. The recent Air France 447 disaster and the spread of the Swine Flu attest to that. Through wise and simple planning we can reduce problems for both ourselves and our loved ones.
Here are two things you can do for your next international travel:
1. Buy international travel insurance for crisis situations.
When I was young I never purchased it. Now I wouldnt leave home without it. Why? Because it covers all kinds of situations from irritating loss of luggage to catastrophic loss of life or limb at very inexpensive rates. Why pay thousands of dollars for transportation food and hotels and neglect to care for your future?
2. Make your own medical travel kit.
Here are items I leave in my suitcase. When I go on a trip I just add my clothes.
- Sunscreen in the water in the tropics the sun can be brutal
- Band Aids keeps pesky flies and dirt from open wounds
- Antiseptics first line of defense against infection cheap and very effective
- Hand Gel for when there is no water
- Sunglasses cheap ones will do; no use having expensive ones lost or stolen
- Mosquito Repellent the one thing that keeps a nice vacation from turning into an unbearable one
- Spare Glasses believe it or not broken eye glasses happen often
- Thermometer especially important if you have young children
- Diarrheal Rx some good ones out there check with your doctor or pharmacist
- Prescription Med’s in Original Bottles in case you have to replace them through local pharmacy
- Analgesics Tylenol Ansaids Motrin etc. selfexplanatory
- Malaria Prophylaxis ONLY if recommended by doctor
